I like infrastructure that's boring in the best possible way — systems that run quietly, fail gracefully, and don't surprise you at 2am. Getting there usually means a lot of unglamorous work: understanding how things actually break, writing the runbook before you need it, and building monitoring that tells you something useful rather than just alerting on IPs nobody remembers.

I've spent the last five years at RealThing AI growing from a software engineer into the person who owns the infrastructure end-to-end. That's included migrating off AWS entirely onto a bare metal fleet across two continents, building our own device management platform when the third-party option stopped meeting our needs, and setting up the kind of networking and security stack I used to only run at home.

Which brings me to the home lab — a Proxmox host, a virtualised OPNsense router, VLANs, self-hosted everything. It's where I figure things out before I trust them in production.
